Herbal Products Toxicology and Clinical Pharmacology

Herbal Products Toxicology and Clinical Pharmacology
Edited by Timorthy S. Tracy and Richard L. Kingston

Herbal Products: Toxicology and Clinical Pharmacology, Second Edition builds on the informative foundation laid by its predecessor. This fully revised and expanded second edition boasts more than 200 new references that document efficacy studies and adverse effects and four new chapters devoted to dietary products.

Practitioners and researchers will find that this volume is a comprehensive resource for objective clinical information about the potential uses, efficacy, and safety of herbal medicines. The authors recognize that the majority of available information on dietary supplements is typically provided by distributors and designed to sell a product rather than objectively inform consumers; therefore, the emphasis throughout is on information not readily available from any other source.

Similar to the first edition, this volume is based on original studies published in peer-reviewed journals, as well as meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and other high-quality assessments by recognized experts

Black's Medical Dictionary

Black's Medical Dictionary, 41st Edition
Edited by Dr Harvey Marcovitch

Black's Medical Dictionary first appeared in 1906. That new century was to see health care in the United Kingdom evolve from a largely personal, paternalistic consultation between doctor and patient, based more on medical tradition than medical science, to a complex, science-based, team-oriented and managed service. The emergence of the informed patient was largely responsible for this change, and publications like this dictionary, the contents of which have during its forty-one editions reflected these changes in medicine, have served as a catalyst. The forty-first edition of Black's Medical Dictionary provides over 5,000 definitions and descriptions of medical terms and concepts, along with over 100 diagrams and drawings including several pages of color illustrations, and is accompanied by appendixes on important subjects such as the National Health Service (including selected statistics), Health Economics, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Common Medical Tests, and an address list of support and professional organizations. Where relevant, entries contain appropriate cross-references to further information. All material has been checked and updated with new or substantially revised entries. This home compendium is invaluable for all who need an authoritative one-volume medical reference book

Dictionary of Medical Acronyms & Abbreviations, 5th Edition

Dictionary of Medical Acronyms & Abbreviations, 5th Edition
Edited by Jablonski

In the four years since the publication of the fourth edition of the Dictionary of Medical Acronyms & Abbreviations, the coining of acronyms has continued at its usual furious pace, and the work of sifting through the enormous volume of candidates for inclusion remains a challenging task. This new fifth edition, although compiled with constant reference to its purpose as a convenient source for the most commonly used acronyms and abbreviations, has nonetheless grown by about 12,000 new entries.
Some long-time users of the book may notice that the familiar Hanley & Belfus imprint has been replaced by Elsevier's Saunders imprint. No matter what the imprint, however, the same care as always has been taken in the selection of entries and the verification of their accuracy. The familiar format of boldface acronyms and abbreviations followed by run-in meanings has been retained, allowing the book to be kept to a convenient size. New terms have been drawn especially from the areas of virology, clinical trials, new technology, and medical informatics. An important enhancement, not visible in this volume but important for the maintenance of the text in the future, is the addition of the contents to the database that houses the well-known Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary, so that the same resources that help to make Dorland's the world's leading medical dictionary can be used for the Dictionary of Medical Acronyms & Abbreviations
